Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane faced uncertainty heading into Week 2 with an ankle injury, but the second-year player will be active for Thursday night’s showdown against the Buffalo Bills. After working out his ankle in pregame warmups, Achane has been given the green light to play at Hard Rock Stadium.
Throughout the week, Achane’s status was in question as he dealt with his ankle injury. He started off as a non-participant in practice on Monday and Tuesday but was able to participate in a limited capacity on Wednesday. This positive progression raised hopes that he would be ready to take the field against the Bills in a crucial AFC East matchup.
The injury was sustained during Miami’s Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, where Achane showed his playmaking ability by rushing for 24 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in seven receptions for 76 yards. With fellow running back Raheem Mostert ruled out due to a chest injury, the pressure will be on Achane to lead the Dolphins’ ground game. However, Jeff Wilson Jr. and rookie Jaylen Wright are expected to contribute as well.
In his rookie season in 2023, Achane quickly made a name for himself in the league with impressive performances. Despite missing some time due to a knee injury, he showcased his explosiveness by averaging 7.8 yards per carry and accumulating 800 rushing yards along with eight touchdowns in just 11 games. Additionally, he demonstrated his versatility as a dual-threat back by adding 197 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 27 receptions.
As Achane continues his NFL career, injuries have been a recurring challenge for the young talent. The 22-year-old has yet to silence concerns about his durability, especially as he navigates through the 2024 season with lingering injury issues. Nonetheless, the Dolphins will rely on Achane’s playmaking abilities and hope for a successful outing against the Bills on Thursday night.
