In a devastating blow to the Cleveland Browns, tight end David Njoku has been sidelined with a high ankle sprain. This type of injury could potentially keep him out of action for a month or even longer, depending on the severity.
At the time of his injury, Njoku was a key player for the Browns, leading the team in receptions and yards. His absence creates a void in the offense that the team will need to fill in order to continue their success.
“The Browns also need to get at least one offensive tackle healthy enough to start on the left side. Whether it is Jedrick Wills or Jack Conklin, sliding over from his normal right tackle spot, Cleveland needs a quality left tackle,” remarked a team insider.
As with any injury, the timeline for Njoku’s return is uncertain. It all depends on how quickly he is able to recover and regain strength in his ankle.
“How long could Njoku be out? The news is not great,” noted a sports analyst. “Not every ankle sprain is the same, but positions also impact how much a player can play with a high ankle sprain. Njoku needs to be able to put pressure on his ankle to block as well as to make quick moves in route running and runs after the catch.”
Compounding the issue is the fact that the Browns only have one other tight end, Jordan Akins, on their active roster. The team will need to explore their options to address this lack of depth at the position.
“We will keep you up to date as more injury news becomes available,” promised a team spokesperson. The Browns are hopeful that Njoku’s recovery will be swift, but they understand the challenges that come with such a serious injury.
