The start of the NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs will be missing a key player in Marquise Brown, the team’s biggest free agent acquisition. Coach Andy Reid confirmed that Brown will be sidelined for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens due to a sternoclavicular injury.
But there is hope on the horizon for the Chiefs as GM Brett Veach provided an optimistic update on Brown’s recovery, stating that his progress has been “incredible.” Veach expressed caution when discussing timelines for return, noting that he didn’t want to put any added pressure on the player. He compared Brown’s injury to that of Tyreek Hill, emphasizing that the wide receiver is making strides in his recovery.
The injury suffered by Brown was reminiscent of Hill’s in 2019, which caused him to miss four games. Brown, along with first-round pick Xavier Worthy, was brought in during the offseason to inject speed and explosiveness back into the Chiefs’ offense. With Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice also in the mix, Brown and Worthy are expected to play crucial roles in the passing game once they are both healthy.
Despite Brown’s absence at the start of the season, Worthy is set to take on a larger role in the offense. However, both receivers are poised to make significant contributions once Brown returns to full health. The Chiefs will be eagerly awaiting Brown’s return to the field to bolster their receiving corps and provide a spark to the offense.
