The NFL Hall of Fame has released its list of nominees for the upcoming class, and it includes a total of 13 former Saints players. Among those nominated are some of the most iconic players in Saints history, including Jahri Evans, Darren Sproles, and La’Roi Glover.
Evans, a finalist for the class of 2024 and a semifinalist for the class of 2023, is no stranger to accolades. He was recently inducted into the Saints Ring of Honor and the Saints Hall of Fame. With a career that includes six Pro Bowl selections, five All-Pro selections, and a Super Bowl championship, Evans has solidified his place as one of the greatest Saints of all time.
Sproles, who was signed by the Saints in 2011, made an immediate impact during his three seasons with the team. He set a single-season record in 2011 with 2,696 all-purpose yards and finished his career as a three-time Pro Bowler, a second-team All-Pro selection, and a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Joining Evans and Sproles on the nominee list are 10 other former Saints, including Jake Delhomme, Ricky Williams, John Kuhn, Terry Allen, Lorenzo Neal, Joe Horn, Jeremy Shockey, Wesley Walls, Kevin Williams, and Eric Allen. This star-studded list showcases the talent that has passed through the Saints organization over the years.
The selection process for the Hall of Fame is a rigorous one, with the screening committee set to reduce the list of nominees from 167 to 50 before announcing the final candidates in October. The 50-person Hall of Fame Selection Committee will then cut the list down to 25 before selecting the top 15 finalists. The final class, which can consist of three to five modern-era players, will be decided ahead of Super Bowl LVIX.
As the debate over this year’s Hall of Fame class heats up, Saints fans are hopeful that their beloved players will finally get the recognition they deserve. Stay tuned for more updates on the Hall of Fame selection process and keep rooting for your favorite Saints players to make it to Canton.
