In a thrilling season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night, the Green Bay Packers faced a devastating blow as their quarterback Jordan Love suffered a lower leg injury in the final seconds of the game. Trailing 34-29 with time running out and no timeouts left, Love managed to march the Packers to midfield with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock.
As the pressure mounted, Love found himself in a collapsing pocket and made a desperate lateral pass to running back Josh Jacobs, who quickly ran out of bounds. Following the play, Love remained on the ground in obvious pain, prompting the team’s medical staff to rush to his side. With the help of trainers, Love limped to the sideline, his night cut short by the injury.
Malik Willis was called in to replace Love, but unfortunately, he was unable to engineer a comeback as the Packers ultimately fell to the Eagles 34-29. Love’s statistics for the night included completing 17 of 34 pass attempts for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
When asked about Love’s condition, head coach Matt LaFleur expressed uncertainty, simply stating, “I don’t know.”
Throughout the international matchup, trainers had been attending to Love’s lower body, indicating that the quarterback may have been struggling with cramping issues. Despite showing signs of discomfort during the game, Love persisted until the injury took him out of the game.
At just 25 years old, Love is entering his second season as the starting quarterback for the Packers, a position he assumed following Aaron Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets in 2023. In his first season as the starter, Love led the team to a 9-8 record and a playoff appearance that saw them reach the divisional round. Impressed by his performance, Green Bay secured Love with a lucrative four-year, $220 million contract extension in July.
