Odell Beckham Jr.’s highly anticipated debut with the Miami Dolphins will have to wait, as the star receiver has been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin the 2024 season. This means that Beckham will have to miss at least the first four games of the season, including matchups against the Jaguars, Bills, Seahawks, and Titans.
While Beckham could potentially return for the Week 5 game against the New England Patriots, the Dolphins also have a bye in Week 6, which may push his debut to Week 7 against the Colts. Since signing with the Dolphins in May, Beckham’s health status has been shrouded in mystery, as he has yet to practice with the team. Coach Mike McDaniel’s uncertainty regarding Beckham’s PUP status further adds to the intrigue surrounding the situation.
The receiver underwent an unspecified “offseason procedure,” which has kept him sidelined for the entirety of training camp. Despite his absence on the field, McDaniel has praised Beckham for his leadership off the field, noting that he has still been able to make a positive impact on the team.
“He’s found a way to be a leader of sorts without playing, that’s tough to do but his mindset is right, so I feel good about that,” said McDaniel on Aug. 23.
Beckham’s absence from practice has also hindered his ability to build chemistry with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, which could be a crucial factor in his success once he is cleared to return to the field. While his exact injury remains undisclosed, the Dolphins will be eagerly awaiting Beckham’s return to the lineup, whenever that may be.
