The Chicago Bears are in full swing, making moves left and right as they strive to solidify their 53-man roster ahead of the regular season kickoff. In their latest maneuver, the Bears have acquired defensive tackle Chris Williams in a trade with the Browns. The deal was officially announced by both teams on Saturday. Chicago is giving up a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for Williams and a 2025 seventh-rounder.
Williams is expected to provide depth for the Bears, given his NFL journey thus far. The 26-year-old entered the league as an undrafted free agent from Wagner in 2020. He began his rookie season on the Indianapolis Colts’ 53-man roster but has since bounced around various practice squads. With just six tackles in 13 career games, Williams is looking to make his mark on the Windy City.
Last season, Williams found himself on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad before landing with the Browns in December. He signed a reserve/future contract with Cleveland in January and had been with them throughout the offseason until this recent trade to Chicago.
This trade is part of the Bears’ ongoing efforts to bolster their defense. Following a miss on former Patriots pass rusher Matt Judon, who was traded to Atlanta, the Bears turned their attention to the Seattle Seahawks and struck a deal for edge rusher Darrell Taylor.
With each move and trade, the Bears are shaping up their roster for what they hope will be a successful season. And as Williams joins the team, he adds another piece to the puzzle that head coach Matt Nagy and his staff are assembling. The excitement is building in Chicago as football fans eagerly await the start of the regular season and the opportunity to see how these offseason moves will play out on the field.
