Derwin James, Joey Bosa, and DJ Chark are all missing a second consecutive practice as the Los Angeles Chargers gear up for their preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, other players who were absent from practice on Wednesday include DJ Chark, who was forced to leave an earlier practice this week with what appeared to be a hip flexor injury, as well as Trey Pipkins, Will Dissly, Hayden Hurst, Nick Niemann, Thomas Harper, Tucker Fisk, and Chris Rumph.
Rumph is still dealing with an injury he suffered against the Seattle Seahawks, while Niemann, Harper, and Fisk are working through some bumps and bruises from their recent game against the Los Angeles Rams.
With the final preseason game typically reserved for players lower on the depth chart to showcase their skills and compete for roster spots or practice squad positions, it was unlikely that many of these sidelined players would see much playing time regardless. However, the absence of key players like James and Bosa raises some concerns and begs the question of when they will return to action.
“Injuries are always a part of the game, but it’s frustrating when key players like Derwin and Joey are unable to practice,” said Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. “Hopefully, we will get some positive news on their status soon.”
As fans eagerly await updates on the injured trio, speculation looms over the Chargers’ lineup and potential game plans for the upcoming season. The hope is that these setbacks are minor and that the team can enter the regular season at full strength.
