Welcome to the preseason where every play is a potential game changer and the scoreboard is just for show.

So let’s dive into what transpired for the Houston Texans.
Davis Mills. Yes, I’m as shocked to say it as you are to hear it. Mills put on a show, completing 10 out of 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in the blink of an eye. A remarkable performance from a player who many had written off before even seeing him play a regular season snap.
Xavier Hutchinson came ready to play, while John Metchie III seemed to be missing in action. Hutchinson shined with five receptions for 56 yards, overshadowing Metchie’s lone catch for a measly four yards. Round one of this camp battle clearly went to Hutchinson, but as we all know, the preseason is a long and winding road where anything can happen.
Cam Akers made his presence known, with five rushes for 13 yards and two receptions for 18 yards, including a touchdown.
Now, let’s address the bumps in the road for the Texans.
The defense is walking a fine line with injuries piling up. The first team defense looks sharp, the second team holds its own, but the depth chart is starting to thin out. Brett Rypien, who took the reins at QB early in the game, torched the Texans secondary, going 11-for-15 with 166 yards and three touchdowns in just half a game.
In the unpredictable world of preseason football, the Texans must navigate through the highs and lows, the surprises and setbacks, as they gear up for the upcoming season. Only time will tell how this team will evolve and adapt before the real battles begin on the gridiron.
