In a shocking turn of events for the Minnesota Vikings, star wide receiver Jordan Addison has found himself in deep trouble off the field. Just a month after his arrest in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), Addison now faces two misdemeanor charges which could lead to a potential three-game suspension in the NFL.
The 22-year-old was discovered passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle near the Los Angeles International Airport back on July 12. Police reports revealed that Addison was driving under the influence of alcohol and his blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit in California. If convicted or if he pleads guilty, Addison could face jail time, fines, or even lose his driver’s license.
This unfortunate incident comes on the heels of another reckless driving offense just a year prior in Minnesota, where Addison was caught speeding at a mind-boggling 140 miles per hour. It also follows a heartbreaking tragedy for the Vikings, as teammate Khyree Jackson lost his life in a car crash involving a suspected drunk driver in Maryland.
Addressing the media at Vikings training camp, Addison expressed remorse and stated that he would accept any disciplinary actions that come his way. Head coach Kevin O’Connell also confirmed that the team would address the off-field issues with their once promising first-round draft pick.
Under the NFL’s strict substance abuse policy, Addison could face a three-game suspension for his first alcohol-related offense, unless there are other circumstances that warrant further punishment. Despite the looming suspension, Addison is expected to play a key role in the Vikings’ offense, lining up alongside fellow Pro Bowler Justin Jefferson.
As a standout player from USC, Addison had an impressive rookie season in 2023 and quickly became a favorite target for the Vikings, racking up 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, his recent off-field troubles have cast a shadow over his bright future in the NFL. Only time will tell how Addison’s legal issues will impact his career and the Vikings’ upcoming season.
