In a thrilling scrimmage-heavy session at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Kirk Cousins put on a dazzling display of dominance, recapturing his earlier training camp form. The intensity of the evening was set right off the bat, as safety DeMarcco Hellams delivered a bone-crushing hit on wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud during just the second pass of the day.
This training camp has been a tale of two halves for quarterback Kirk Cousins. In the initial days with shorts, he was virtually unstoppable, completing 28 of 30 passes with surgical precision. However, when the pads came on for days 5 and 6, Cousins seemed to struggle with accuracy on his deep throws.
But on this particular evening, Cousins seemed to rediscover his rhythm, going an impressive 17-20 overall. He showcased his prowess in the red zone with a touchdown pass and led the offense to victory in a two-minute drill, completing all four of his passes. Despite relying heavily on short passes, Cousins displayed improved accuracy on intermediate and deep throws, completing 15 consecutive passes before narrowly missing on a deep shot to WR Darnell Mooney.
Throughout camp, Cousins has been meticulous in spreading the ball around to various receivers. However, on this night, he appeared to hone in on WR Drake London. London did not disappoint, reeling in eight of Cousins’ completions on all eight of his targets, including a beautiful out route for a touchdown over cornerback Anthony Johnson.
The energy at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was palpable as Cousins showcased his talent and connection with London. It was a night to remember as the Falcons’ quarterback once again asserted his dominance on the field, leaving fans and teammates alike in awe of his performance.
