Veteran wide receiver Jarvis Landry is not ready to hang up his cleats just yet, as he continues to seek out another chance in the NFL. After a two-year hiatus from the league, Landry decided to test the waters once again, this time with the New York Jets. The 31-year-old attended the Jets’ training camp on a tryout basis, hoping to impress the coaching staff and secure a spot on the team’s roster.
This is not the first time Landry has tried to make a comeback this offseason. Earlier this year, he participated in a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars during their rookie minicamp. Unfortunately, he did not receive an offer from the Jaguars, leaving him to continue his pursuit of a new team.
The Jets have not made any official announcements regarding Landry’s potential signing, despite adding two other wide receivers to their roster. Isaiah Winstead, a former UFL player, was among the players that the Jets brought in, further complicating Landry’s chances of landing a contract.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Landry’s future in the NFL, there is no denying his talent and past accomplishments. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Landry was known as one of the league’s top possession receivers during his prime. He led the NFL in catches in 2017 with an impressive 112 receptions. Drafted in the second round out of LSU, Landry spent the first four seasons of his career with the Miami Dolphins, where he surpassed 1,100 receiving yards twice as a full-time starter.
In 2018, Landry was traded to the Cleveland Browns, where he continued to be a key player in their offense, despite sharing the field with star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He nearly reached 1,200 receiving yards in 2019, showcasing his ability to produce at a high level.
However, injuries began to hamper Landry’s performance starting in 2020, leading to a decrease in production. His most recent stint in the NFL saw him as a backup for the New Orleans Saints in 2022, where he managed 25 catches for 272 yards in nine games.
As Landry continues to navigate the ups and downs of his football career, he remains determined to prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. Whether or not he will find a new home with the New York Jets or another team remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – Jarvis Landry’s passion for the game is unwavering, and he will not stop until he gets another shot to showcase his skills on the gridiron.
