In his seventh year with the Denver Broncos, Courtland Sutton is confident that his peak performance is yet to come. The star wide receiver expressed his optimism for the upcoming season, stating, “Each year I tell you guys, ‘I’m not where I want to be, and I always feel like there’s more for me to be able to get to.’ I feel like this year so far, I’ve been seeing so much more of an improvement in my route detail and my route technique.”
This offseason, the Broncos made significant investments to improve their team. They selected Bo Nix as their quarterback of the future, who is currently competing for the starting position against Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. There is a strong belief that Nix will emerge victorious in this battle. Additionally, the team strengthened their receiving corps by adding veteran Josh Reynolds, as well as drafting Troy Franklin and Devaugh Vele.
Looking back on last season, where Sutton fell short of reaching 1,000 receiving yards, it was still a standout year for him. His performance was reminiscent of his 2019 Pro Bowl season, as he caught 10 touchdowns, tying for fourth-best in the league. Sutton’s ability to make highlight reel catches played a crucial role in securing victories for the Broncos.
Despite Sutton’s individual success, the team’s wide receiver group is filled with talent. Alongside Sutton is veteran Tim Patrick, who is determined to bounce back after battling injuries in previous seasons. The camaraderie between Sutton and Patrick, who have been teammates since 2018, is undeniable. Sutton expressed his admiration for Patrick, stating, “Seeing him back out there brings a smile to my face. Tim and I have been doing this now for seven years together, and to be able to see him fight through the adversity that he’s been through the past couple years and come out here with the mentality that he has, it’s been a lot of fun.”
The depth of the Broncos’ wide receiver group is seen as a significant strength for the team. In addition to Sutton and Patrick, players like Marvin Mims, Jr., Brandon Johnson, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey are all vying for expanded roles in the upcoming season. Sutton highlighted the depth and talent of the group, stating, “We’re deep. We have a lot of guys that can go out there and play. We have a lot of talent. There’s a lot of height in our room, but there’s also a lot of speed. It’s a very deep room.”
With a mix of experienced veterans and promising young talents, the Denver Broncos’ wide receiver corps is poised to be a key asset for the team in the upcoming season. As Sutton continues to strive for greatness, supported by a talented group of receivers, the sky is the limit for the Broncos’ passing game.
